Our Story
Our story began in 1972 when our CEO, Mark Griffin, was born to a father who has provided audiovisual technologies for the stage ever since he was in high school. Derek Griffin is still active in the field where his work can be found at https://ggservices.tv. Mark grew up helping his father in numerous jobs within theatre productions and the local church community. As a teenager Mark worked on various high school productions and started working independently in providing audiovisual services for the churches he attended. He has provided these services within the churches he attends to the present day, where he currently attends New Life Uniting Church in Robina (the largest Uniting Church in Australia with 750 seats and five services each week).
Reaching high school Mark was particularly dismayed when it came time to choose subjects to study in Grade 9. He loved computers and mathematics, but was required to choose two humanities to study by his school. He chose music as one of these two subjects, thinking that music would be the “least painful” of the humanities, and studying music he was also required to learn how to sing and to join the school choir. He very quickly discovered a love of singing and has now been singing in choirs since 1987. He currently sings in Vocal Waves on the Gold Coast, and in the choir at St John’s Cathedral in Brisbane for their Easter and Christmas Services.
Mark progressed to complete six university degrees (including a Bachelor of Computer Engineering, a Masters in Medical Statistics, and a PhD in Mathematics). As if six degrees wasn’t enough he is currently completing his seventh degree part-time (a Masters of Education at Griffith University where he is focussing on adult learning).
After a long career in academia he started Insight Research Services Associated in 2011 to provide training and consulting in data science across the various industries which involve the collection and analysis of data (ie. he enjoys working with clients across all industry sectors).
In 2018 Mark moved from Brisbane (where he lived most of this life) to the Gold Coast and quickly fell in love with all of the recreational pursuits on the Gold Coast. Amongst other things he was a volunteer at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and discovered scuba diving (and has since completed over 100 dives and is just starting his Divemaster course), dancing (at Gold Coast Salsa), the student clubs at Griffith University, the Gold Coast Home of the Arts (HOTA), and the bustling movie production industry on the Gold Coast.
In 2024 Mark established a branch of Insight, “Insight Leisure Training and Technologies” in order to combine his interests in adult education, the leisure industries, audiovisual services, and computer technologies.
Insight provides technology services (where our expertise has been built up from ever since Mark’s father discovered a love of technology), and training (from a Registered Training Organization that we partner with to provide training in the leisure industries and their associated technologies).
We love what we do and we are excited about everything that the future has in store!!
